    Free Music Classes

    Our Curriculum

We teach the industry, not just the song.

    The Framework

    The BEATS Method

More than a free music class, our after-school program puts the whole industry in the palms of students' hands. Not as a lecture, but as a process. They write, record, and learn what happens behind the board, behind the scenes, and behind the contract.

Our curriculum runs on the BEATS method, because the music industry is bigger than a mic and a dream.

    B

    Business behind the business

    E

Engineering, production, sound, recording, & DJ'ing

    A

    T

    The Journey

    From Start to Finish

Our six-week program starts with what students already have: a story, a taste in music, and a reason to hit record. Based on the genre and role they're drawn to, we group them into bands. Then they get to work, deep-diving into the real process of writing, recording, and producing an original song.

Beyond learning how to craft chord progressions and a chorus that sticks, they learn the power of "we," working as a creative unit, not individual artists. They listen, give and take feedback, make mistakes, ask questions, and laugh through it. Because people learn by doing, not by watching.

    Week 1

    Meet the Team

Meet your mentors, explore genres, ask questions, and get placed in a band. Then, we cover the basics of writing and ear training and start developing a melody.

    Week 2

    Build the Foundation

Next, we dive into the equipment fundamentals and the power of we. Professional artists give feedback on your song's progress before we finalize the structure and begin branding.

    Week 3

    Tighten the Sound

The song gets tighter this week. We rehearse, fix timing, and stress-test the chorus. Engineers learn plugins, set levels, and hear the difference between loud and clear.

    Week 4

    Learn the Business

We talk money this week, breaking down what a tour costs and what a deal pays. Then, we take a field trip to a major studio to see pros at work, and run through the set like show night.

    Week 5

    Polish and Master

Run-throughs, again and again, until every cue and transition feels easy. Engineers master the track, and everyone gets the chance to ask a major artist what life in the industry is really like.

    Week 6

    Hit the Stage

Students hit the stage and perform, then we celebrate and debrief. Turning the industry upside down, we practice resolving conflict and feeling confident about what comes next.

Confidence starts with clarity, not just for students, but for parents and partners, too.

Yes! Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, Mobile Music Institute offers completely free music classes and mentorship. We raise the money so access isn't tied to a family budget or a "who you know," and students can focus on the work, not the price tag.

Laying the foundation for the next generation, our programs are open to students between the ages of 14 and 18. We group bands by age to keep the room comfortable, the conversations relevant, and the learning level set for where students actually are.

Students meet for a free music class and mentorship session twice a week for six weeks, after school. We bring the studio to students, so they don't have to travel far, providing all the snacks, equipment, and support they need to succeed.

People who have done the work. Our team includes industry veterans, genre-specific specialists, professional mentors, audio engineering experts, and coordinators to cover the entire spectrum of the music industry.
